Eleven-time 2023 Billboard Music Award-winning country artist Morgan Wallen found himself in hot water late Sunday when he was apprehended at Chief's, a recently opened six-story Nashville honky-tonk co-owned by his longtime friend and business partner, Eric Church.
Wallen faces charges of three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.
According to a police report, the 30-year-old singer allegedly hurled a chair from the rooftop of the bar just before 11 p.m., narrowly missing Metro Nashville police officers stationed below. Security footage reportedly captured Wallen throwing the object before witnesses claimed he laughed about the incident.
In a statement provided to the Tennessean by Wallen's representatives, his lawyer, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest and stated that Wallen is cooperating fully with authorities.
Following his arrest, Wallen was released on $15,250 bond around 3:30 a.m. Monday and is scheduled to appear in court on May 3. This court date coincides with one of his planned concert dates at Nashville's Nissan Stadium on May 2-4.
There has been no official announcement regarding Wallen's scheduled appearance at the Oxford, Mississippi's Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on April 20, 2024, or his headlining slot at the Stagecoach Festival on April 28, in light of his recent legal troubles.
This incident marks another chapter in Wallen's tumultuous history with law enforcement in the Lower Broadway area. In May 2020, he was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside Kid Rock's honky-tonk.
Despite his legal woes, Wallen has announced plans to open a Nashville bar named 'This Bar' in 2024, paying homage to his Tennessee roots. The establishment, inspired by his song of the same name, will serve as a live music venue and restaurant.
Wallen's latest run-in with the law comes after his controversial 2021 incident involving the use of a racial slur, which led to his music being removed from CMT platforms. Despite this, his recent performances have garnered record attendance, including his headline tour kickoff in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.
The opening of Chief's, in collaboration with Eric Church, adds another venture to Wallen's burgeoning business interests. The duo is also involved in the relaunch of the Field & Stream outdoor lifestyle brand, further solidifying their presence in Nashville's music and entrepreneurial scene.
